New Song from Ryan Stasik’s Doom Flamingo: “Telepathy”

Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik’s new project Doom Flamingo is a synthwave collective that also features Ross Bogan (Keys), Thomas Kenney (Guitar), Stu White (Drums), Mike Quinn (Saxophone) and Kanika Moore (Vocals). The group will release an EP later this fall and has confirmed three upcoming dates:  October 11 Underground at the Fillmore in Charlotte, october 12 at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC and October 26 with RoboTrio at the Charleston Pour House.

Today we premiere one of the tunes from the forthcoming EP.  Stasik tells Relix, “’Telepathy’ is a song from my new synthwave sextet — Doom Flamingo.  The lyrics were written by the amazingly talented Kanika Moore (Vocals). Doom’s retro-synthesizer sounds pay homage to the musical decadence of the 1980s.   Bubblegum synthpop collides with eerie John Carpenter darksynth for awesomely danceable results.  There’s a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing going on with our songs, so the name Doom Flamingo is very fitting.

“Doom Flamingo came together through past collaborations and friendships in our home — Charleston, SC. We’ve only been a band since early May, but we demonstrated great chemistry when we tracked five songs the first two days recording together.  Mike Quinn (Sax) and I shared the stage at The Major Rager in Augusta, GA with Jen Hartswick and Natalie Cressman in 2016.  Through Mike I got to know the other members from the Charleston scene who’ve played together in various ensembles for years — Ross Bogan (Keys), Stu White (Drums) & Thomas Kenney (Guitar) — ALL PRO musicians! Doom Flamingo’s rising… Come dance with us at our upcoming shows in the Carolinas!”
