Music World Reacts to Jon Batiste’s Selection as Bandleader for Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show’
News came down today that Stephen Colbert will appoint Jon Batiste and Stay Human as his bandleader when the host takes over for David Letterman on The Late Show beginning this September. As you’d expect, Batiste is one of the more well-liked musicians out there today, and support came pouring in from all across the music world from Umphrey’s McGee and Phish archivist Kevin Shapiro to members of Jimmy Fallon’s band, The Roots.
Batiste and Colbert have a familiar past, as the New Orleans musician has appeared on The Colbert Report before, including on Colbert’s final episode where he posed alongside the likes of George Lucas, Alexi Lalas and others as a whole ensemble of stars played the host off.
Read some tributes below, started by Batiste himself who shared a funny GIF of himself dancing with Colbert during one of his appearances on The Colbert Report.
Huge congrats to my buddy @JonBatiste on his new role as bandleader for @colbertlateshow
Rock on!
