Mountain Jam Flashback: Umphrey’s McGee Unleash “Pay the Snucka” with Rage Against the Machine Jam

As Mountain Jam 11 prepares to take flight this weekend in Hunter Mountain, NY, it’s only appropriate to look back on last year’s edition. One of the highlights was a particularly rocking version of “Pay the Snucka” uncorked by Umphrey’s McGee during their set. On a night that found the band in especially good spirits, they tore through two fairly atypical festival sets as they delivered cuts like “Space Funk Booty,” “Mullet (Over),” “Utopian Fir” and a first-set closing “Thin Air” with Warren Haynes and Rob Koritz.

The second set was anchored by several standout jams, the first of which came in the form of an extended “Deeper” early on. After “Cemetery Walk II,” the band dug into this “Pay the Snucka,” stretching it out to include a raucous “Bulls on Parade” jam at the end. Watch pro-shot video of that performance below.

Mountain Jam kicks off today with performances from Railroad Earth, moe., Marco Benevento and others.
