Lucius Singing “The Great Gig in the Sky” is Just Glorious

May 25, 2017

Earlier this week, Roger Waters previewed his much-anticipated and massive Us + Them tour with a dress rehearsal in New Jersey, and while the initial reviews are solid and the performance featured a satisfying mix of Pink Floyd favorites and new tunes from his upcoming album, Is This the Life We Really Want, due out next week, the video below shows that Waters might not be the most impressive thing on this tour.

Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, better known as the vocal duo that powers Lucius, can be seen absolutely killing Floyd’s classic Dark Side of the Moon cut “The Great Gig in the Sky,” which famously features improvised vocal acrobatics from Clare Torry. No one can really touch that original performance, for a few reasons, but Wolfe and Laessig definitely put their all into this one, and that’s more than enough. The seemingly spontaneous harmonies are a also chillingly magical touch.

Watch a clip of the performance below, and read our feature on Lucius, where Wolfe and Laessig talk about the transcendent experience of playing with Waters for the first time at Newport Folk Festival.
