Listen: Ryan Adams’ Cover of Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” Will Make Your Day, Week and Life

When we first heard of Ryan Adams covering Taylor Swift’s 1989 at his own PAX-AM Studio, it never quite felt real. Just a dude fucking around in the studio with his friends, right? Wrong. Now the release is official and soon we will be able to own our very own copy of Adams covering Taylor Swift.

To start, Zane Lowe premiered his take on “Bad Blood,” the single that took over the radio airwaves when Swift released it. You’ve never heard the song quite like this, and you should be prepared to have a Taylor Swift song make you feel emotions as Adams flips it on its head, really channeling the Smiths vibe he was going for when this project was first announced. Now we await “Welcome to New York” which was dubbed, “Guaranteed saddest version of ‘Welcome to New York’ ever – or your tears back.”

Listen below. Ryan Adams’ 1989 arrives September 21. Adams will also sit down for an interview with Zane Lowe on Monday along with a “very special guest on the phone” that is probably definitely Taylor Swift.

And since we’re all covering each other’s albums now, Jason Isbell wants to take on Adams’ punk rock-EP 1984 released shortly after his latest self-titled record. I, for one, would also be into that.
