Listen: Foo Fighters Premiere New Songs “What Did I Do?/God As My Witness” and “Outside”
Another Friday, another new song from Foo Fighters. This time, the band delivered “What Did I Do?/God As My Witness” featuring Gary Clark Jr. adding his distinct guitar sound to the tune. Recorded at Studio 6A in Austin, TX, the tune resembles the band’s earlier, more polished rock and roll sound closer than any of the material released thus far. The Austin, TX episode of Sonic Highways airs tonight at 11 PM on HBO. The album itself is due out November 10.
In addition to the new studio track, the band also debuted “Outside” today during an in-studio session for BBC Radio 1. The song was recorded at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, CA and features guitar work from Eagles’ Joe Walsh. More broody with Nate Mendel’s bass at the forefront, this one plays out like something from their last, stellar effort Wasting Light. Think “Bridge is Burning” mixed with bits of “The Pretender.” In other words, a heavy duty rock song.
For those of you keeping score, that marks five of the eight tunes from Sonic Highways that are now available. They’ve previously revealed “Something From Nothing” with Rick Neilsen, “The Feast and the Famine” with contributions from Bad Brains and the Nashville-tinged rocker “Congregation” with new pal Zac Brown. Listen to the two newbies below.
