Listen: Dave Matthews Band Debut “Eyes of the World” Following Jerry Garcia’s Death

August 11, 2015

This year marks 20 since the passing of Jerry Garcia. In the days that followed, the music world (and world in general, really) paid tribute to the fallen idol. Twenty years ago today, a budding jamband fresh off the release of their major label debut nodded to the guitarist as Dave Matthews Band debuted a cover of “Eyes of the World” during their 8/11/95 show at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA.

The band would never play the song again, although Boyd Tinsley did play on the song when he sat in with Phil Lesh & Friends at the Capitol Theater in April 2014. That night, Tinsley also added violin to “Crazy Fingers,” “Mountains of the Moon,” “Uncle John’s Band” and “Box of Rain.”

Listen to audio of the performance below.
