Let Us Never Forget the Pure Greatness of Southern Phish

Phish will always belong to the Northeast corridor of this great country, but something undoubtedly happens when they travel south of the Mason-Dixon Line and dabble in the more Southern offerings of this land.

This fall, Phish will return to a number of choice Southern venues along their 13-date tour before wrapping things up in Vegas for Halloween and there is definitely potential for the road to Sin City to be paved with greatness as Phish return to a fertile breeding ground of iconic shows.

In case you need a reminder of the primal power of Southern Phish, let’s look no further than the band’s 2010 run at the North Charleston Coliseum, where they will open their fall tour. Here we have Example A, an unmarked YouTube video viewed over 170,000 times of a section of “Possum” where the crowd goes positively postal. Ironically titled “Why Phish Sucks!” the short clip is but a fitting primer for just how high-octane that run was.

Moving on to a fitting Southern choice, “The Curtain With,” played for the first time in 2010 on this very night.

“Fluffhead” at least started out as somewhat of a 3.0 staple and certainly delivered here as Fluff traveled south.

These final two are some of the more outrageous Phish videos you’ll ever see. For starters, a really noisy and jarring “You Enjoy Myself” that probably definitely lifted the North Charleston Coliseum off the ground at various points.

And then there is bedlam. Skip ahead to 4:30 for the sweet cherry on top of this run.
