We’ve told you a lot about the greatness of Sturgill Simpson, and that story got another chapter last night when he not only didn’t attend the CMA Awards, but rather went live on Facebook outside the arena in Nashville as he busked and took questions. 

Flanked by a sign that read, “I don’t take requests but I take questions on anything you want to talk about…because fascism sucks,” Simpson riffed on an impossibly wide variety of topics and also collected donations for the ACLU. Fans chimed in to get his thoughts on Donald Trump (“He’s a fascist fucking pig”), Kanye vs. Drake (He picked Kanye), what he’s been listening to lately (ELO, Angel Olsen) and so much more in a fascinating 48-minute stream. 

Oh, and there’s also music. Simpson performed “Turtles All the Way Down” and “Water in a Well” shortly before his phone battery died.
