An emotional Jimmy Fallon paid tribute to David Bowie last night on The Tonight Show, as most late night hosts did in the wake of his death after a battle with cancer. The host mentioned he and Bowie used to email jokes back and forth. “We were just talking about him last week, wishing him happy birthday, and now he’s no longer with us,” the broken up host said. 

“If you could check your email in space or heaven or wherever you are….you don’t have to email me back. In fact, don’t. It’d be weird for me if..don’t even consider.” He closed with, “Just read it and enjoy what I put in there” before pulling out Bowie’s Blackstar album and saying, “Play it loudly and thank him. Thank you, David Bowie.”
