Part time pitcher and full time Grateful Dead fan Jake Peavy highlighted a January 9 show at the Paradise in Boston to benefit Theo Epstein’s Foundation to Be Named Later. The Hot Stove Cool Music show culminated with a collaboration from Peavy as well as Jackie Greene, Doug Pettibone, Ben Jernigan, Jen Hartswick, Duane Trucks, Kevin Scott, Chris Spies and Chris Spies Jr. on a roaring cover of “Sugaree” led by Greene.

Peavy’s band, dubbed Band of Cohorts, also mixed in covers of JJ Cale’s “I’ve Got the Same Blues” as well as “Shakedown Street,” “Goin Down the Road Feeling Bad” and the Stones’ “Gimme Shelter,” according to CSN Bay Area. On the event, Peavy told CSN, “”To get to come up here and play music for a great cause, I want to know where to sign up. We got a chance to spend some time with those (TFTBNL) kids today. Always a fun and exciting, special time. It really takes you back to your youth and lets you know what’s important in life. To go out and play music tonight and get to raise lots of money doing something we all love, I’m happy to be here.”
