Happy Birthday Ryan Adams and Bryan Adams: Relive Ryan’s “Summer of ‘69” Cover
No, this isn’t a joke. Ryan Adams and Bryan Adams share the same birthday. The two singer-songwriters have been confused for one another for nearly their entire careers, often to the point of complete annoyance. Hell, people still fuck it up. But in the last year or so, the Adams’ have become quite close, even going as far as to hang out from time to time (they even made it onto Jeopardy together) and doll out some cover versions. Today, Ryan took to Twitter to shout out his brother in name and rock and roll on their special day.

And of course, let’s celebrate both birthdays with Ryan’s cover of “Summer of ’69” from his show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The cover itself is quite beautiful and the story that followed is even better. As Bryan Adams noted in an interview, “I think it was some sort of cathartic release for him to return to that venue and play that song, as you probably know the story there. So I think in some ways, he has been haunted by the song somewhat, which is a shame because it’s a really great song. I’m happy he did it. He’s a great artist and sure I’d sing one of his songs, I’m not sure which one though.”
