Father John Misty is making headlines on his latest tour, and not just for his interviews discussing experiencing a Taylor Swift show on acid. Instead, Josh Tillman and his band are flexing their muscle on a number of creative covers, started earlier in the run with a take on Rihanna’s “Kiss it Better.”

Last night at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago, Tillman and Co. dug into a “sappy” love song that Tillman called his “favorite love song” in fact–Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer.” Now, if you know anything about the tune (or NIN in general), you know that Reznor doesn’t dabble in sappy love songs. This one, with its…..loving imagery……is not one of them. 

That said, their take on the song is nothing short of stunning as Tillman channels his inner Reznor with the help of some female vocalists. Watch below.
