People traveled from as far as Mississippi for The Everyone Orchestra show March 9 at Asheville Music Hall. The ever-changing band doesn’t tour feverishly like most other jam bands. For this reason, it was easy to see why the show drew fans from such great distances. Needless to say, the show was sold out.

This session featured, Kyle Hollingsworth (The String Cheese Incident), Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey), Dan Lebowitz (ALO), John Morgan Kimock (Steve Kimock Band) Greg Hollowell (Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band), Anthony Thogmartin and Mike Healy (Papadosio)

Balancing on the edge of improve and structure, the conductor, Matt Bulter, hurriedly wrote on his whiteboard, “this is a partA.” The crowd cheered. Within the first song a guitar amp was blown, but the band played on.

Butler directed the orchestra through various chord and key changes, all while encouraging audience participation. Notably, they played a handful of cover tunes including, “People Say” (The Meters), “Sympathy For The Devil” (The Rolling Stones) and “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robot Pt. 1 (The Flaming Lips).
