Brooklyn Comes Alive 2018 (A Gallery)

Brooklyn Comes Alive returned to New York in September and took over three venues in the borough—Brooklyn Bowl, Music Hall of Williamsburg and Rough Trade—with a full afternoon, evening and night of supergroups, one-off collaborations, tributes and more.

The day’s schedule featured some smaller groups, like all-star trios (Johnny Vidacovich, Robert Walter and Eric “Benny” Bloom; Carubba, Compa and Winderman) and quartets (Adam Deitch, Wil Blades, Ryan Zoidis and Bloom; Katharsis feat. Dave Watts, Todd Stoops, Chuck Jones and Marcus Rezak; Marc Brownstein, Borahm Lee, Alvin Ford Jr. and Khris Royal) and one funky quintet, which included Cory Henry, Nikki Glaspie, Scott Metzger, MonoNeon and Skerik.

There were also a few special tributes—one to Col. Bruce Hampton and Allman Brothers Band members Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks, featuring George Porter Jr., Brandon “Taz” Niederauer, Elise Testone and more, another a tribute to Prince featuring MonoNeon and members of The Motet, Turkuaz and more, and the final a Steely Dan tribute with members of Dopapod, Turkuaz, Kung Fu and more. The night rounded out at Music Hall of Williamsburg with two Jam Cruise-inspired Jam Rooms, one led by George Porter Jr. and the other by Karina Rykman and Craig Brodhead.
