Black Pumas in Milwaukee (A Gallery)

Classic soul-influenced outfit Black Pumas took their show to Milwaukee, WI, recently for a set at Collectivo’s Back Room. Stephen Bloch shared some photos from the night, along with a note on the show:
“For the past decade, soul has been on an upswing. Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones made an indelible mark on the music industry, while acts like Mavis Staples, St. Paul and the Broken Bones and Nathaniel Rateliff are moving up the ranks on festival lineups, and many others seem to be consciously adding soul-twinged material to their repertoire. When a band from Austin forms and draws on the likes of Gary Clark Jr, Leon Bridges, the Isley Brothers, The Black Keys, even Alabama Shakes, they can get lost as white noise. This won’t be the case for Black Pumas. Even as a fledgling act, they are putting together top-quality live shows ahead of their debut album, set for release this fall. Here are pics from their Milwaukee show at Collectivo’s Back Room.”
