The new album from Big Chief Bo Dollis, Jr. & The Wild Magnolias captures the feel of an authentic, local New Orleans gathering. Cyril Neville produced My Name Is Bo which melds second line, hip hop, funk, jazz, blues and the sounds of the Mardi Gras Indians. Big Chief Bo Dollis, Jr. first joined the Wild Magnolias on their parades as a youngster and has since taken the leadership mantle from his legendary dad and former band leader, who passed away in 2015. As he notes, while reflecting on the name of the record, “My name is Bo, too. I’m not trying to take my father’s name. I’m going to carry his name, but I’m not going to try and fill his shoes. I’m gonna fill my own shoes and carry the name on.”

Today we are premiering a remix of “Roll With The Big Chief.” The original version of the song appears on My Name Is Bo, which is the first album from Dollis Jr. and the Wild Magnolias since 2013’s New Kind of Funk. 50 Grand remixed the tune, which features Big Ramp & 7th Ward Shorty. As Bo Jr. says of the varied sounds on the record: “When you go on Bourbon Street or you go into the clubs — Howlin’ Wolf, Maple Leaf, wherever — you don’t know what you might run into.  New Orleans is zydeco, New Orleans is blues, second line, you might have a reggae band. That’s what I wanted.”
