Band of Other Brothers (Babko, Carlock, Coffin, Felder & Lee) Announce New Album, Share “The Rabbit”

“Making music with these guys is like getting three scoops of ice cream instead of just one. It’s like when your parents let you lick the frosting bowl after baking a cake or getting the birthday present you always wished for but were afraid to ask,” an enthusiastic Jeff Coffin says of his quintet Band of Other Brothers, who will release their new studio album, Look Up! on August 13 via Ear Up Records. In addition to Coffin (Dave Matthews Band, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones) on saxophones and woodwinds, the group also features drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan, Sting), keyboardist Jeff Babko (James Taylor, Toto), Will Lee on bass and vocals (The Late Show with David Letterman, The Brecker Brothers), and guitarist Nir Felder (Keyon Harrold).

The five musicians joined forces remotely during COVID to record the album, which is the follow-up to  2016’s City of Cranes. Carlock reflects, “Because we were across the globe, there was a deeper meaning to the music for us, and hopefully listeners will get some joy from hearing it.” Then he adds, with some understatement,  “And it’s a pretty killer band!”

Babko, Coffin and Lee each composed three songs for Look Up! which was engineered and mixed by John Paterno. Today we are premiering Coffin’s burbling, animated soul jazz offering, “The Rabbit.” He offers, “I love simplicity of melody and coming up with something people will be unconsciously humming or whistling after they hear it once. An ‘earworm’ if you will.”
