15 Years Ago Yesterday, James Brown Joined Dave Matthews Band at Madison Square Garden

December 22, 2017

Fifteen years ago yesterday, Dave Matthews Band’s second of two shows at Madison Square Garden was humming along nicely when the band decided to blow the roof off entirely.

For the ending run, the band teamed with Karl Denson and Brian Jordan (Denson’s Tiny Universe opened the show) for “So Much to Say,” “Anyone Seen the Bridge” and the traditional “Too Much” finale. While many expected that to be the end, the band stayed on the stage and welcomed none other than the legend James Brown for their first and only meeting.

Brown led the band on “Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine” and even did the running man dance with Matthews as the show went from great to legendary in an split second. Listen to the whole meeting below.
