Premiere: Doom Flamingo’s ‘DOOM EP’

The South Carolina-based band Doom Flamingo are self-described as “a six-headed synthwave beast with a Jekyll and Hyde element to the songwriting.” Today, we premiere their latest foray into Hyde territory: DOOM EP. The album was produced, recorded and mixed in their hometown of Charleston, S.C., and it has been released on Umphrey’s McGee’s Nothing Too Fancy Music label.

“The DOOM EP is just as it sounds – our first of many explorations into all things that are born from darkness,” wrote the band in a statement. “We set out to make something purely conceptual. We wanted to write outside of ourselves and into our favorite books, movies, guilty pleasures and imaginations that lean toward the mysterious and macabre.

“Horror is often looked at as a cheap-thrill genre, but isn’t it also an exploration into our innate fears as humans?” the band continued. “Without Science Fiction, we might not have many of the devices we use every day. It is also fun, and we’re very much about that as well.”

“The world has darkness and light. Doom Flamingo has chosen to lead you into the dark first. Don’t be afraid…” bassist Ryan Stasik (of Umphrey’s McGee) told Relix.

Doom Flamingo was formed in 2018 for an Umphrey’s McGee after-show. Since then, they have released a series of singles and delivered incredible live shows. The band has kept busy during quarantine; they recently performed a two-night stand at an empty Charleston Pour House.
