On Saturday, Oct. 25, moe. took their Fall Tour to Nashville, Tenn.’s Brooklyn Bowl Nashville. While rapidly reaching the last stretch of a year of touring that celebrated their 35th anniversary and the release of Circle of Giants, their 10th studio album, the foundational jamband has continued to deliver outstanding performances bolstered by unexpected setlist surprises. In Music City, the sextet continued this trend with a new cover honoring a Nashville icon, featuring support from Emma Derhak.
moe. set off their show on Saturday night with the No Doy essential “Rebubula,” which set a ripping pace for ensuing staples “Chromatic Nightmare” and “Stranger Than Fiction.” The band’s latest studio offering saw its first inclusion with their cover of Ghosts of Jupiter’s “Yellow Tigers” before they paid tribute to John Prine with a debut treatment of his classic “Angel from Montgomery.” To properly salute one of the greatest songwriters of all time and his connection to Nashville, the band called on bassist Rob Derhak’s daughter Emma, who added lead vocals after several similar sit-ins on recent tours.
moe. wrapped their first frame with “McBain,” then returned to the stage for the next set with the emotional Circle of Giants centerpiece “Ups and Downs.” After blazing through “Band in the Sky,” “Z0Z (Zed Nought Zed)” and “Opium,” the group toasted Pink Floyd with their fan-favorite cover of “Have a Cigar.” Another powerful moment came with “Kyle’s Song,” which led into a set-closing medley of “The Pit” and “Rebubula” and an encore of Blind Melon’s “No Rain.”
Tomorrow, Oct. 29, moe.’s Fall Tour will continue with a stand at Athens, Ga.’s Georgia Theatre, preceding their highly-anticipated two-night Halloween co-headline series with The Infamous Stringdusters in New Orleans. Find tickets and more information on the band’s full live itinerary at moe.org.
